Vehicle: 1997 Mercury Cougar XR-7 4.6
Symptom: The vehicle pulls to the left when braking. A complete 4 wheel brake job was performed, with new pads, calipers, rotors, and hoses, The pull remained the same. The strut rod bushings were also replaced, but did not help. The vehicle is not equipped with an Antilock Brake System (ABS).
Hotline Archive Fix: Check for a loose left lower ball joint, or a binding right lower ball joint. When checking the ball joints with the wheels off the ground, raise the vehicle so that the weight of the car is still on the lower control arms. Also check for loose lower control arm bushings.
Quote: Brake hoses and pads did NOT fix it. New ball joints fixed it. We replaced all four. Never would have suspected this were not for IDENTIFIX.

Vehicle: 1998 Isuzu Rodeo 2.2
Symptom: The check engine light is on. Trouble code P1627. (PCM Analog To Digital Conversion Error) Intermittently, the gauges are not functioning normally. The cooling fan stays on.
Hotline Archive Fix: Fuel Level Sensor, which is not sold separately. You will need to get the fuel pump assembly.
Quote: Fuel level sensor fixed it. Sensor was pulling the 5 volt ref. to ground. This is a real fix. I know it sounds like a bunch of BS but this is true.

Vehicle: 1999 Toyota Tacoma 3.4
Symptom: P0171
Hotline Archive Fix: Monitor the calculated load reading on a wide-open throttle acceleration. The reading should go to 85% or more. If not, then the airflow meter is faulty. Mass airflow meter
Quote: Had code p0171 & lacked power up hills. Someone had installed new o2. Checked Direct-Hit & checked MAF. It was very dirty, cleaned it and road tested. Runs great now. Direct-Hit saved me time again! Thanks Richie.

Vehicle: 2000 Volvo S80 2.9L
Symptom: MIL on and codes P1171 and P1181.
Hotline Archive Fix: Look for intake air leaks, especially at vacuum line connections.
Quote: Well the vehicle had a two part problem. The S80 had a vacuum leak at the brake booster vacuum line and also had a hairline crack at the lower intake gasket. Fixed the vacuum line and replaced the lower intake gaskets and it corrected the problem. Customer was very satisfied, thanks Identifix.

Vehicle: 2001 Nissan Altima 2.4L
Symptom: Engine has a definite miss at idle. Code P0304 for a misfire keeps coming up.
Hotline Archive Fix: Spray carburetor spray at the bottom of the intake manifold gasket, especially near #4 cylinder, and see if the idle smooths out. A common problem is a leaking intake manifold gasket.
Quote: Exact match for a problem car we had. Two other shops failed to fix it, and one was ready to replace the motor. Also, it's not an easy leak to find we would have been looking elsewhere if not for the archive.
